28.03.24 Today's gospel. John 13:1 - 17, 31 - 35 Jesus demonstrates to the disciples what love means by the washing of the feet. The Master does the work of a servant. So He commands them and us to show love in kindness, compassion and supporting the least of our society or families. We're to wash the feet of each other not literally above but in the above ways. Today, the Mother Church celebrates Christ's institution of the *Sacrament of Priesthood* and the *Sacrament of Holy Eucharist.* Pray for priests and their families and continue adoring Christ is the Holy Eucharist. *Let us pray* Our Heavenly Father, Your Son Jesus Christ washed his disciples’ feet as a sign of service and compassion. Show us how to live and love in service and with compassion, for the sake of all your children. Amen. St. Barnabas Anglican Parish, Bluff.
27/03/24 Today's gospel John 13 ver 12 to 32. We must remember that Jesus came from God and is going to God and that God has put complete control into Jesus's hands. But the one who has all the power and glory is the one now washing feet....his power is expressed in self giving LOVE. This act is a reflection of being cleansed and forgiven by Jesus and this is how a Christian should be. Bottom line if Jesus served others then so should we that follow him should serve others with love and kindness.. Let us pray. LORD help us to love our brothers and sisters in Christ..that we are willing to wash their feet and allow them to wash ours..may we do so in tenderness and warmth knowing how gentle you are with us. In Jesus mighty name we pray Amen St. Barnabas Anglican Parish, Bluff.
26.03.24 Today's gospel. John 12:20-36 In the text, Jesus continues to talk about His glorification through the cross. He says the _hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified_. As opposed to what He said in John 2:4 _My hour has not yet come._ His earthly mission of three years has been accomplished. His glorification will be through His death. Glorification here implies the carrying and death on the cross. May God be glorified in our own carrying of the cross. May our suffering reveal something powerful for others to be drawn to God. *Let us pray* Lord Jesus Christ, keep us awake so that we follow you faithfully to the cross. May we be Your true followers today and always. Amen St. Barnabas Anglican Parish, Bluff.
25.03.24 Today's gospel. John 12:1 - 11 Jesus returned to Bethany where He raised Lazarus from the death. Last time He was there, Mary cried by the feet of Jesus, " _Lord if you had been here my brother would not have died_ " . This time she pours expensive perfome on Jesus' feet and wipe them with her hair. This shows on how precious the Lord was to her. She did not care what the public would say about her loosing her hair in serving Jesus. *Let us pray* Lord help us to emulate people like Mary in the text by giving our best service to You. May we not reserve anything but give all to You. Amen. St. Barnabas Anglican Parish, Bluff.
23.03.24 Todays gospel. John 11:45 - 57 The death of Jesus was well and long planned by religious people who now wanted to kill Him to let Rome know they were on the side of Rome. Jesus however was killed by religious people of the time because of His claim to be God. He signed His death warrant long back and we simply accompany Him these days as he approaches death and torture. We bring to God in prayer, many people in the world today who suffer torture. May we like Jesus, approach Holy Week, considering how He took time in quiet, was with His companions and chose the times in which to speak and those in which to stay silent. The leaders saw that believing in Jesus would threaten much of the security that they knew. It may be so with me; we might have to correct comfortable habits or give up patterns that we have settled into. We can ask Jesus to show them to us and to help ud to leave them behind. *Let us pray* Lord may know You show a changed lifestyle in us. We ask for the strength and courage to be calm and confident disciples of Yours. Amen St. Barnabas Anglican Parish, Bluff.
22.03.24 Today's gospel. John 10:31 - 42 The text talks about how the Jews doubted and questioned Jesus, who He was, what He did and proclaimed. The works of healing, teaching and forgiveness were among other works of Jesus done in the name of God. All of that points us to His Divine origin, the Son and Word of God. Something more than human seemed to touch others, as some believed and many did not. Our prayer is that we come to a moment of admitting and deepening our faith in the Divine Son of God, Jesus Christ our only Way to the Father. *Let us pray* Lord help us to accept Your Message as it is, and not be like the people that questioned you all the time. May we spread Your Message of love and forgiveness to all people. Amen St. Barnabas Anglican church- Bluff
21.03.2024 Today's Gospel John 8:51-59 Very truly I tell you who ever obeys my word will never see death. At this exclaimed the Jews now we know that you are demon possessed Abraham died Jesus said who ever obeys his word will never see death but the fact is that Jesus has the power over death. Jesus will confirm that when he is crucified then he will rise again from the dead Before Abraham was born I am the one ,Jesus claims to be God . The people will never be separated from God . He's enemies failed to stone him he was invisible . Let us pray Lord give us the grace of speaking holy words that always give your glory and reflect the eternal truth live in our hearts. Help us to also be aware of the lies all around us in this world of sin.Lord Jesus please influence us daily to sit patiently at your feet and learn from you. Fill us your grace to be active members of your church the grace to witness in the midst of our world Amen St. Barnabas Anglican Parish, Bluff.
20.03, 24 Today's gospel John 8:21-30 Again he said to them, ‘I am going away, and you will search for me, but you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you cannot come.’ Then the Jews said, ‘Is he going to kill himself? Is that what he means by saying, “Where I am going, you cannot come”?’ He said to them, ‘You are from below, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world. I told you that you would die in your sins, for you will die in your sins unless you believe that I am he.’ They said to him, ‘Who are you?’ Jesus said to them, ‘Why do I speak to you at all? I have much to say about you and much to condemn; but the one who sent me is true, and I declare to the world what I have heard from him.’ They did not understand that he was speaking to them about the Father. So Jesus said, ‘When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will realize that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own, but I speak these things as the Father instructed me. And the one who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone, for I always do what is pleasing to him.’ As he was saying these things, many believed in him. *Some thoughts* This text, invites us to trust and belief in Jesus Christ, that He is from above. Trust is a gift from God. Our prayer will help us to express our desires and to find what God wants for us. We must take time in prayer to sit with Jesus, asking for the patience and trust we need to let truth be revealed. In the text, His hearers were either unable or unwilling to understand his teaching up to this point. Jesus is still revealing His identity, but He is also exploring the identity of those He is addressing. We cannot come to the knowledge of Christ without first of all understanding the truth of who He is, and the truth of who we are. If we do not know who Christ is, we will not value Him . *Let us pray* Lord help us to recognise who we are, so as to grasp the greatness of our need and dependance on You. You are the only answer to our needs. Amen. |
