Today's gospel 
Mathew 6:1-6, 16-18.

We may call this reading, "devotion in secret." Here, Jesus tells us the motivation behind religious practices like such as, giving, prayer and fasting. 
Jesus tells us that these actions should be done privately and not for public display. He tells us that true reward comes from God when these actions are carried out with genuine devotion in secret. Remember that God knows our heart. God reads the minds of us all.

Let us pray. 

Father God, we pray to you today for a heart of humility. Please teach us to be humble and show us how to be good sheep to you. We pray for wisdom, patience and guidance, so that we may shine forth your love to the world today and always.
Amen.
