Today's gospel 
Mathew 5 27 to 32.

Let's call this reading the act of SIN. Simply say, sin begins with the thoughts and desires of the heart, and not just the outward act. Jesus emphasizes the seriousness of sin by using a strong example of cutting off a limb (eye or hand) that causes sin. So, in a nutshell we need to control our desires and thoughts and NOT just our external actions. 

Let us pray.

Father God, give us the strength to resist temptation and to maintain a pure heart, mind and spirit. We ask that you forgive us for past transgressions and let us recommit to faithful living. In Jesus' Mighty Name, we pray.
