Today's gospel 
Mathew 6 v1-6 and 16-18.

This reading teaches us of God's rewards for those who pray.
This is between you and God. He sees in secret and will reward you, that is a promise.

Worshipping God is a deeply personal and private activity even when ministering to the needs of others.
Just like fasting, we need to do the right things for the right reasons. If we show all that we are doing, we are hypocrites and will not receive favor from God.
So, through fasting, we can trust God at the deepest level.

Let us pray.

Father God, we pray that you teach us to pray earnestly to you. 
Also teach us to be humble and kind. 
In Jesus Mighty name, we pray.
