SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY REPORT
Every Saturday morning an average of around 60 homeless men and women gather at our church for a meal as well as prayer and fellowship.
They receive a cup of tea or coffee, sandwiches, some pizza (if available), a fruit and juice if requested. They also receive a can of fish or beans to take away.
They leave here satisfied, happy and very grateful for the meal.
On a Sunday morning a box of groceries is handed out to a needy family in our congregation. This is done at Father Barnabas’ discretion on a weekly basis.
Another winter beanie distribution was done. Thanks to Sue Hildyard for her tireless efforts and time.
This year we celebrated our 4th seated Christmas meal after which Father Christmas handed out presents to all. A big thank you to all our loyal sponsors for cash and kind.
Thank you once again to all our volunteers who provide sandwiches and work tirelessly on a Saturday morning to see that the homeless and hungry are well fed and satisfied.
This past year we were especially blessed with the help from the younger generation, a fine ministry on its own.
We thank God for this wonderful ministry and we look forward to greater support and sponsorships in the future.
Yours in Christ
Social Portfolio Chair
Priscilla Singh and Trish Daniel.
STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE REPORT
2017 Highs
· Accomplished Team goals example- Jo Jo installation,
Waste Management Recycle Bins, adopting of garden spots, Introduction of baby calming room, framing of Mission and Vision statements of the Dioceses as well as St Barnabas etc.
· One Team Ethos-Working together amongst committee members.
2017 Lows
· Perception that Stewardship is seasonal.
· Church members reluctant to sign up as members of the different portfolios.
· Increase of crime on Church Premises, members feeling threatened.
· Vacant land opposite Church grounds -Identified as a “Hotspot “- for alleged illicit activities
2018 Focus
Ministry will be spiritually based amongst the community in line with the theme “ United in Christ “ and aligned the Vision and Mission of St Barnabas Church. Being in community gives you the chance to be around people at different stages of their faith journey—and to bear their burdens alongside of them (Galatians 6:2). That’s awesome, because everyone has something to teach and to learn. In fact, it creates the ideal environment to be a Barnabas (friend), pursue a Paul (teacher), or train a Timothy (student).
1. Community is encouraging
2. Community is fun
3. Community attracts the Holy Spirit.
4. Community fosters love.
5. Community is life-giving
Moira Green
Rector’s Address
Vestry 2018 will be held on the 25 Feb. 2018 @ the 0900 services. We are all encouraged to try to attend. This is Anglican form of government in action. Vestry is the highest decision-making body in the Parish. Which receives reports from various committees and the Auditor.
Since the last Vestry a few our members have gone home rest. Some have relocated. In the same breath, we welcome new families that have joined the parish in the last year.
In 2017 we welcomed Bishop Dino and his wife Elizabeth, on St Barnabas day and several young people and adults where confirmed.
Rumbie and I welcomed Lubabalo “Chubby Cheeks,” and we continue to praise God for his wonderful mercies.
I would like to thank the outgoing Parish Councillors for their dedication in 2017.
I would like to thank the Church Wardens Lumko Yeko and Claudette Cadir and alternate warden Jenny Lovell for negotiating us safely through 2017.
Reema Ward for her work as Treasurer.
The men’s group for setting up the JoJo tank-now in full use.
To Adele for being the best Parish Secretary. Lastly and not by any means the least, the many parishioners who are the unsung heroes of this Parish. I say Thank You.
Lots is happening in the country. The Western Cape faces Day Zero as the drought continues and the drought does not only affect South Africa but the whole of Southern Africa. We all need to pray for good rains. Vestry is taking place as several inquiries are being held by the Government of South Africa. This is good for democracy and we hope that the Rule of law will prevail and those implicated in the inquiries will face the mighty of the law.
On a brighter note, the Rand continues to be strong helping with low fuel prices. We need a lot of jobs to be created for the countless multitude in South Africa especially among the young people.
In Lent, a course called Idolatry will be shown every Wednesday in the media room which now has of a tv and air con. The course will take place in the morning and evening.
Responding to Parishioners request, Vestry 2018 meeting, will continue to be short and relevant. To that end we have distributed reports early in the month, for people to read. At Vestry, we will adopt reports, and elected people for Parish Council and other offices. Each Parish Council member will hold a portfolio in which they will report to council and are expected to form a committee with parishioners to execute the work of that portfolio. So, in the long run all parishioners and councillors are encouraged to participate in the life of the parish through portfolio committees. We are all expected to push for new boundaries.
This year we are expected to be united as we journey and to be like geese that support one another during a flight.
Thank you again for all the love and support you have shown to Rumbie, Lubabalo and myself. May God Continue to bless you exceedingly.
Rector
Rev. Barnabas Nqindi

This year we hope to have a play on Palm Sunday with young people and an elaborate confirmation service in June 2018
Thank you to one and all who continue to do so much at St Barnabas -Bluff. The unsung heroes!

CHURCH WARDEN’S ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE YEAR 2017
A: The year it was:
1. We thank God indeed for another year of healthy financial standing. Also, the work of all Parish Councillors in keeping a close watch on finances is high commendable. All this would not have been possible without generous giving of the parishioners. Thank you people of God.
2. The year started with a mandate from the municipality to operate purely as an NGO / NPO. That led to stop hall hiring and terminate of property leases.
3. As a result of the above, the plan of getting a permanent Care Taker to reside in the property was put on hold. To ensure continuous delivery a General Cleaner and a Gardner were employed on contract basis.
4. Many parishioners have relocated in 2018, some retired and others passed on. We praise the Lord in that new parishioners came in and some of them propelled by the power of the Holy Spirit to serve in different ministries.
5. On the 10th of October different parts of the property were damaged by heavy storm. Praise be to God that the insurance gave the parish some money to do some repairs of which they have started.
6. 2017 saw an increase in number of unsafe incidents taking place in the parish. Few examples being stolen cars and break-ins into the property.
7. There has been a massive spiritual growth amongst many members of the parish. That is an indication that the presiding priest is serving the parish according to the will of God guided by the power of the Holy Spirit.
B: Looking Ahead:
1. As a parish we need to continue to seek God’s guidance in serving Him within the parish perimeters and outside.
2. The safety of parishioners, their property and the church property needs to be the tackled by every portfolio in 2018.
3. Massive property repairs will be one of the highlights due to storm damages and that the buildings are quite old now. Woodborer infestation is still a challenge too.
4. The warrant on the parish car is coming to an end sometime this year (2018). It is advisable that the parish plan for a new car next year in order to save on maintenance costs on the current car. Also to get a maximum value when the present car is being sold.
5. It would be great if more spiritual gifts can be seen at work in the life of the whole parish. Everyone needs to respond positively to God’s calling this year.
C: Conclusion:
Finally, on behalf of Ex Co we would like to thank you the continued support in terms of monthly pledges, donations (all forms), prayers, sharing your skills and spiritual gifts with other parishioners in building and supporting this part of the church of God.
God Almighty has seen your actions and will reward you accordingly.
Also there are many parishioners who did things behind the scenes to ensure that worship the Lord in a well-kept place, your endeavours are highly appreciated.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!!

St Agnes Guild
St Agnes is a small organisation in our parish, but we still lift our banner high. In 2017 we committed ourselves to visit the sick in the parish which we did. We visited St Monica’s children’s home and as small as we are we have managed to donate food and toiletries. We still want to do more in our parish more than that we involve ourselves in a choir.

Jnr. Church Annual Report
Year 2017, was a challenging year for the Sunday school. While the teachers and kids shared great joy in the gospel of our Lord Jesus. Our highlights for the year:
● Mother’s day cupcake decorations
● Archdeaconry combined Children’s ministry (biggest highlight of the year.)
● Annual Christmas party and Christmas play
We did face quite a number of challenges:
● Steady decline in numbers during November and December
● Teaching resources
● Not enough teachers
Our main goals of our Sunday school this year have been to emphasize and familiarise the children with the church ritual and tradition - incorporate the different colours used to celebrate each part of the church year and lighting a candle during our lesson, to remind us that God is with us. Not forgetting to make the children feel comfortable, asking or discussing questions about God and the Bible, after all the main objective for our gathering is to grow the kids spiritually and have fun along the way.

Evangelism Portfolio Report for 2017
For the year 2017 the portfolio was involved in the 20 week Wednesday morning “Called to Serve” Bible Study that was well supported by the Church, having on average 10 people per session.
We were also involved in the 90 Day Bible reading, where there was a Whatsup Group that was responsible for feedback and comments.
In the 90 Day Read we concentrated mostly on the history and facts of the Books and authors. Had a very positive feedback from the diligent readers who enjoyed the weekly instalments.
Concerning this year 2018, Evangelism ideas and input from council and lay ministers would be appreciated.
My thoughts are as follows:-
1. Set up a St Barnabas evangelism group.
2 Support Men’s group with Seafarers mission.
3. Bible study – Idolatry/Group revival.
4. United in mission – get the church together.
5. Post Lent – come back to church.
Clive Slater
Mother’s Union Report for 2017
1. Enrolment of New Members
The members are enrolled in the Parish by the Rector.
2. Social Outreach
We visit and comfort those who are in trouble, sick or lost their loved ones, not only
members of the church. We also do a collection to help them with their needs.
3. Meetings
We meet on the first week of the month.
4. Farewells
We host a farewell function for those who retire.
5. Diocesan Policy
We attend meetings once a quarter.
6. Finance
We get money from paying for washing of blouses, registration, membership etc.
Plans for 2018: Raise funds for Mother’s Union Centre by selling breakfast, organising a concert, cake sale at tea time.
7. Management Election
Elections for new management is done every three years. Names are sent to the Diocese. The Rector must be involved when elections take place. Members cannot hold positions for more than six years.

Vestry Report: Worship.
Worship at St Barnabas is rich & diverse. 7am sung Eucharist follows the Prayer Book format. The 7am Chorale practise weekly to lead the congregation, occasionally delivering extra musical items, classical, traditional & modern. We are looking for new members, as several members retired in the last year.
9 am Services saw big changes in the music group in the last year, with new members from our own youth stepping up eagerly and learning on the job. They continue to grow in number and proficiency, thanks to Ryno’s inspirational leadership. Members have assumed leadership roles where required, with Siya deserving a special mention as Ryno’s 2 i.c. May growth, faith & unity abound as they continue to bless & lead us.
11am Xhosa language services expand &enrich the worship experience offered at St Barnabas, with singing contributions in combined services much appreciated.

* A huge thank you to all who supported the Annual Church Dance and to those who contributed in one way or another to make it a success. Since this is a Church function, we would like more of our parishioners present at this function as well as other functions.
* Fundraising will be ongoing this year. Various portfolios that have functions planned for this year should do their fundraising to cover the costs of their functions. Please secure a date on the Calendar with Adele.
We thank God for the success of ongoing activities within this Parish which is only possible through Christ Jesus and your involvement. We pray for success within your life, your families and your work, and good health, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Men’s Group Annual Report for 2018 Vestry
1. 2017 Review
o The year started well with a weekend away.
o The 05:30 am service during Lent went very well.
o Need to elect a new leader to coordinate all the activities.
o Have to be more visible and active in different church ministries.
o Lead by example – Set a trend for the youth and boom shakers.
o Need to have a quiet day or retreat at least once a year.
Thank you very much to all men who helped in different ways and categories during the year. Your efforts have been noted by our Lord Jesus Chri

VESTRY 2018

Rev. Barnabas Nqindi
Pastoral - Liturgy Portfolio

FUNDRAISING REPORT - VESTRY 2018
* Several fundraising events took place during 2016. Some portfolios did their own
fundraising which contributed to covering the cost of planned events.

- Setup a good plan to collaborate some of our activities with youth. That ended up on the planning stage.
- Another good thing was to visit Mission to Seafarers every Monday afternoon.
- A number of men relocated and some had several constraints with regards to attending church related activities. This led to finishing the year with less achievements.
o Need to elect a new leader to coordinate all the activities.
o Have to be more visible and active in different church ministries.
o Lead by example – Set a trend for the youth and boom shakers.
o Need to have a quiet day or retreat at least once a year.
Thank you very much to all men who helped in different ways and categories during the year. Your efforts have been noted by our Lord Jesus Chri
