15/5/24 Today's gospel John 17 v11b - 19. This is a prayer from Jesus to God. Here he is praying for his disciple's protection. Jesus knows the tough ministry that he has left them to continue with. A beautiful verse meaning to protect them from the evil one and to sanctify them by the truth.... because the word will hate them as they are not of the world anymore. Sanctify means to set apart for an intended purpose. To do this one has to surrender fully to God and to be ready for any change God wishes to make in our lives. Let us pray Lord Jesus, we thank you for your guidance. We thank you for your protection. We thank you for your friendship. Teach us to be your faithful followers that are sent in your name we pray Amen

14.05.2024 Today's Gospel John17:1-11a • Father the hour has come *Glorify* your Son that your son may glorify you •Now this is eternal life that they know you're the True God and Jesus Christ whom you have sent • I have *revealed* you to those whom you gave me out of the world • They knew *certainty* that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me •All I have is yours and all you have is mine. I will remain in the world no longer *Reflection* Jesus gave glory to God through all that said and did here on earth. There is glory all around even if we too often lack the eyes to see it. *Prayer* Loving father unite your children in the bond of love and fellowship with yourself, so that those that are your children may abide in you and you in us Amen St. Barnabas Anglican Parish, Bluff.
13.05.24 Luke 14:7 - 14 *Seating Arrangements* The story in today's gospel is about the well-to-do, the landowners, and the upper class who have concerns about their social and economic status. Weddings or funerals are times to show off their distinctions and merits. They cannot wait for the hosts to offer them places, instead, they go for places of honor, they push to those places because they like to be seen by all how distinguished they are. Often the most distinguished guests would arrive last for a feast. Those who gave themselves seats risk chances of being embarrassed by being asked to move and leave space for the rightful guests. *Let us pray* Lord Jesus Christ, help us to avoid such behavior. May we not overestimate or exalt ourselves or seek VIP seats/positions, instead may we humble ourselves and we will be exalted at the appointed time. Amen. St. Barnabas Anglican Parish, Bluff.
11.05.24 John 16:23-28 New International Version 23 In that day you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. 24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete. 25 “Though I have been speaking figuratively, a time is coming when I will no longer use this kind of language but will tell you plainly about my father. 26 In that day you will ask in my name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf. 27 No, the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. 28 I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the father.” REFLECTION We pray in Jesus' name. Why? Because Jesus is our Mediator, and the Holy Spirit is our Intercessor. They give us the right to go directly to the father with the burdens of our hearts, the struggles of our lives, and the weakness in our faith. We go boldly as the Father's beloved children, with Jesus, our older brother, as our Mediator. We go confidently, knowing that the Holy Spirit makes our words and our inexpressible feelings known to the Father according to his will. Because of Jesus' work for us at the Father's side and his gift of the Holy Spirit to us, we can speak directly to the Creator of the universe and know that we are heard, and that God responds. Incredible! PRAYER Father, God of all creation and Lord of the universe and history, thank you for hearing my prayers, knowing my heart, and bidding me come to you as your child. I know that you provide this grace to me at the cost of Jesus' leaving heaven and coming to earth to die for me. I pray that my life will be a fitting tribute and praise for all that you have done for me. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen. St Barnabas Parish, Bluff
10/5/24 Today's gospel John 16 v20-24. This reading once again reminds the disciples and us that Christ had to suffer and die for the sins of the world. (Mark8 v31) The days ahead will be especially dark and frightening for those who followed Jesus closely. Yet the outcome will be very powerful and world-changing. Jesus explains this using the analogy of childbirth... Christ was speaking to those in the world today. Will come to a perfect understanding of GOD'S word and mission. Let us pray. Father God, we pray in earnest and righteousness to be able to produce wonderful results in your mighty name. Thank you for hearing our prayers. Amen St. Barnabas Anglican Parish. 09.05.24
Christ is Risen Today's 1st Reading Ephesians 1:15–23 Reflection: May they know the riches of your glorious inheritance, the immeasurable greatness of your power toward them on their behalf. May they know freshly today that, because you are for them, nothing can stand against them. According to the working of your great might, that you worked in Christ when you raised him from the dead and seated him at your right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule, and authority, and power, and dominion, and above every name that is named not only in this age but also in the one to come. Let us pray Thank you, Lord, for helping us to know what we have in You (1:15-18) and pointing us to what You want us to Know (1:18-23) and to know what is the hope to which You have called us to, riches of Your glorious inheritance in the saints. Amen St. Barnabas Anglican Parish, Bluff.
08/05/24 Today gospel John 16 v12to20. In this reading, Jesus is doing his final teaching before his departure. We, as Christians, need to remember that the Holy Spirit will guide us into all truth. The Spirit will not lead us incorrectly but will show us the correct way. These 3 sentences explain the Holy Spirit. 1) wise beyond wise. 2) fully loving. 3) always present. Finally, the role of the Son is to glorify the Father and the role of the Spirit is to glorify the Son. Rely on the Holy Spirit for total guidance. Let us pray. Father God, we pray that we may grow in love because we are created, redeemed and made holy by God's action and presence. We pray for a spirit of generosity. Amen St Barnabas Anglican Parish‐Bluff
07.05.2024 Today's Gospel John 16:4b‐11 l did not tell you this initially because I was with you. But I am going back to him who sent me But very truly l tells you it is for good that I'm going away Unless I go away the Advocate will not come to you but if I go, I will send him to you When he comes, he will prove the world wrong about sin, righteousness, and judgment. Reflection Jesus speaks about the work of the Holy Spirit the joy of the believers and his victory over the world. When the Spirit of truth comes q he will guide us into all truth. When Jesus is taken away from them, he will send them an advocate a helper Let us pray Father lead us, guide us into all truth today, tomorrow and forever. Be with us every moment of every day, help us to experience joy in life. Create in us a new heart, be our Lord and savior forever Amen St. Barnabas Anglican Parish, Bluff
06.05.24. Today's gospel. John 15:26-16:1. Jesus taught His disciples with His word and prepared them for life when he would no longer be with them. He knew there would be opposition to them and danger to their lives because of their following him. *Prayer* Lord God, give us the gifts of the Holy Spirit so that we give witness to Your presence and power. Being aware of how much being a witness to the gospel costs, we pray for the strength to remember these words of Jesus in the hour of need. Amen St. Barnabas Anglican Parish, Bluff
04.05.24 Today's gospel John 15:18-21 18“If the world hates you, be aware that it hated me before it hated you. 19If you belonged to the world, the world would love you as its own. Because you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. 20Remember the word that I said to you, ‘Slaves are not greater than their master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you; if they kept my word, they will keep yours also. 21But they will do all these things to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me. Reflection Jesus wants our faith and our presence with him. The coming of the Trinity among us arises from the desire of God to invite us into belonging with them, and to know the mystery of God from the inside. We can say ‘yes' or ‘no' to that invitation. Our time of prayer is one way of saying ‘yes', and of opening ourselves to the divine energy in the world and inside each of us. Prayer Heavenly Father, thank You, that Your Word states plainly that the world hated Jesus. I understand that trials and tribulations are common to all men, but that those who follow You will inevitably suffer persecution for righteousness's sake. Thank You that You have promised to keep me through the difficulties, dangers, persecution, and pain that all who live godly lives in Christ will suffer. I am so thankful that You intimately understand how I feel when the world hates me, because it hated You first. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on Jesus Who is the hope of my calling and thank You that Your grace is sufficient for every situation I may have to face in this life. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen |
